Kids Starting a Business
Need Their Parents
This is from a dad's heart for the parents (and guardians) of kids starting a business. There are experiences in life that are fantastic in preparing kids and teens to survive and thrive in our world today. - Time with mom and dad and gaining wisdom from them is one.
- Learning how to relate to others and knowing that the world doesn’t revolve around just them is another.
- Working for someone to understand commerce or simply kids starting a business for themselves is in my mind right there at the top of the list.
You’ll be amazed at the character qualities that will be developed in your son or daughter. Responsibility, dependability, the ability to communicate, self-reliance and math skills are just a few. There’s no reason for a child to get in the mindset that money just naturally appears when needed. Kids starting a business with the wisdom and approval of mom and dad will develop an understanding of the value of planning, goal setting and perseverance building memories that will last a lifetime. If your lifestyle allows it, being able to work right along side your son or daughter as they build their business is one of the best ways to mentor them. When my sons were old enough to be on a job site, they learned how to tear down and rebuild walls, hammer nails, hang doors, caulk, paint, clean and scrub, pressure wash and reroof. They learned to estimate a rehab project and to share in the profits of that rehab. Our times together then are some of the best memories I have. Today, my sons are excellent businessmen and I am incredibly proud of them both. There are gobs of business ideas for kids that you can scroll through, think & talk about. I'm confident one or more of them will fit the personality and desires of your kids. Obviously this isn’t a list for you to pick one and tell your child this is what you’re going to do. For our kids to enjoy and develop a solid work ethic it really helps when it’s a business that they think is cool. Something that when their eyes open in the morning they think: Hey I get to ________________(fill in the blank).
NOT: Oh no, it’s Monday and I’ve got a week of ___________. The following ideas for kids starting a business are meant to be looked at together. The ideas are set up to get your kid's attention but this is not a website meant for individuals under 18 years of age. There are personal safety concerns, legal, ethical and moral issues that you as a parent understand and are able to communicate to your son or daughter. They need your wisdom, your experience, your approval, your love and encouragement. Do it together. My sons are grown and on their own now. I would love to have the adventures again that you will have as you learn how kids can make money. Together, you are both going to have a blast!
